Costume: My response!
these are great Gudrun. I am sure we can use most if not all of these. It may be that some of you discard and take on other costumes. We can cover the cost of any cleaning. Great stuff Gudrun!

Costume?
Here are some things I have (just for every day use...) that could potentially be used if anyone's interested...
Military Jacket (v.Branagh in Hamlet)

It's 35" chest so might fit Kev
* Medieval-Cut Dress, Green/Maroon Liberty Print

Roughly size 10/12 although quite narrow on the shoulders so bosoms may heave in this. Last seen (on Rachel) in Henry the Leper but don't let that put you off...
* Jade Elizabethan-Cut Jacket (looks damn fine with black...)

Front Detail

Back

Back Detail

Roughly size 12
* Tinkerbell Dress (somewhere at my mum's and pre-digital hence the one photo...)

Small size 10
Laura Ashley Victorian Cut Dress - Cream with White Pinstripe

Size 10/12 - can be worn as is and buttoned up, or open over something else. A bit Much Ado, but not very heaving...
* Elizabethan-Cut Ball Gown

Front Bodice Detail

Roughly size 10/12. Fookin' gorgeous, but I wouldn't want any More Than A Woman-esque rolling in cake to go on with it!
The ones marked with a * are left from my mother's time as a designer back-in-the-day, and if they were used in the piece I might like to ask for a contribution towards dry-cleaning them afterwards. And no cake.
If anyone's looking for something specific for their costume please feel free to ask me - I've got loads of random stuff and the biggest collection of sea-sounds...

Karen Carpenter and costume
Karen Carpenter...mmmmmmmmm, could this be the beginning of a look for Jo...?
Close To You Video & Lyrics
(They Long To Be) Close To You by Burt Bacharach and Hal David
Why do birds
Suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me
They long to be
Close to you
Why do stars
Fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me
They long to be
Close to you
On the day that you were born
The angels got together and decided
To create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair
Of gold and starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around
Just like me
They long to be
Close to you

Message From Gian Re. Photoshoot
OK.
So, the photo shoot. A tricky one since we are in the early stages of course.
Perhaps some of my thoughts can feed into this.
Something that may well drive/provide the dynamic for the piece is that
you are all people who only exist and communicate through Shakespeare. As
if - for example - you are a bunch of obsessive compulsives who are exiled
to a space imbued with the resonance of Shakespeare in many forms. So, you
take on the mantle of a character from a Shakespeare play/film...
I've chatted to Emma about the possibility of Emma Thompson from
Branagh's Much Ado. So, perhaps for the photo shoot we need to work on
such things. It can always change. As long as we have an interesting and
theatrical photo, we'll be fine.
So, for the purpose of the shoot then, let's try and costume in this mode.
Gudrun, perhaps have a look at Judi Dench as Lady Macbeth in the RSC
production with Ian McKellen. Zoe, think about Ophelia maybe, but perhaps
in a more contemporary way - look at the photo I attached from a
production I saw of hamlet in Gdansk a few years ago. It is Hamlet and
Ophelia sat on a sofa. Kevin, maybe look at Hamlet as in Branagh -
something a bit like your costume from Bloody Chamber perhaps? The rest of
you think along this vein. It doesn't have to be too literal, more
theatrical/per formative. use your imagination and bring stuff in. We can
always have a look in the costume store.
And picking up on Zoe's cinema idea, let's have popcorn and nasty big coke
cup things for the shoot. This could well be the idea! (And snogging in
the back row of course.
Can someone pass this on to Rachel, as I believe she might be having some
trouble accessing email/internet - just in case.
Nothing we do need be set as such, it is simply that I usually find myself
in this curious position, and this year it is earlier than ever.
I think we will be doing 3 performances, Saturday and Sunday then the
final Saturday with Polish students.
And PLEASE...can someone come in and help me put stuff on the blog! I'm
old and tired and I don't know how!!!! Once I've been shown, I'll be OK. I
promise!
